Maldivian arrested at BIA with heroin worth over Rs. 24 million

The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) has arrested a Maldivian national at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake with over 2.39 kg of heroin worth around Rs 24.4 million.
The 33-year-old suspect was arrested in the departure terminal of the airport following a search carried out based on information received, police said.
Police found a haul of heroin weighing approximately 2kg 39g 340mg in the possession of the suspect, who is said to have visited the country on 15 separate occasions since 2016.
The suspect was presented before the Minuwangoda Magistrate’s Court and will be held under seven-day detention orders for further investigations being carried out by the PNB.
