Ranjan de Silva murder investigation handed over to CID

The police investigation into the murder of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council member, Ranjan de Silva, has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). 

 

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara also said that extra police units have been assigned to assist in the investigation.   

 

Ranjan de Silva, 62, who is also the father of Sri Lankan cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva, was killed in a shooting incident, which left two others injured, at around 8.30pm on May 24 in Sri Gnanendra Road, Ratmalana.

 

Mount Lavinia Police had investigated the killing while on Friday (June 1) it was reported that three arrests had been made in connection. 

 

One of the suspects was identified as Lamahewage Nihal Dissanayake alias “Beba,” who was arrested with heroin in his possession. He is suspected of aiding and abetting the murder. 

 

Another two suspects were arrested following an operation in Ratmalana and included a man identified as Chaminda Senaka Fonseka who was in charge of Dehiwela-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council’s gym.

 

A number of cases have been filed against the suspect including murders, possession of live grenade and drug trafficking, investigations had revealed.
