Strong gusty winds expected over the island

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph can be expected over the island, particularly in Central, North-Western, North-Central and Southern provinces and in Badulla and Trincomalee districts, according to Meteorological Department.

 

Showers at times will occur in Central province and in Galle and Matara districts. Several spells of showers will occur in Sabaragamuwa, Western and North-Western provinces.

 

Sea areas:

 

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the South-Western and southern sea areas of the island, The Meteorological Department stated.

 

Winds will be south-westerly in the direction of the sea area around the island. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

 

The sea area extending from Tangalle to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times.

 

The wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea area extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai.

 

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
