Residents of Namalpura, Maithrigama, Maha Rambewa, Halmillewa areas, belonging to the Palugaswewa Divisional Secretariat, are reportedly facing a severe scarcity of water and food.

All the water resources and the vegetation of the area have been parched due to the lack of rain, according to Ada Derana reporter.

The villagers are seen accessing water from small water holes in the area for their daily necessities.

Reportedly, around 100 families fulfill their daily water needs from a tube well with arduous efforts.

The residents of the area claim that, although they have been facing a water crisis for a long period of time, no responsible authorities have heeded the issue yet.

They barely survive on the drinking water supplied from Palugaswewa Divisional Secretariat, the residents have further stated.

The villagers, whose livelihood depends on dairy farming, are reportedly in a dire strait as they are failing to provide drinking water for the cattle.

They are digging up the parched water tanks in order to find water for bathing and providing drinking water for the cattle.

The residents request the authorities to pay immediate attention to the situation and provide them with dry rations, drinking water or at least a transport subsidy to travel to Hurulu Wewa reservoir to obtain water.

They have alleged that no political authorities have arrived in the area to look into the issue.
