New members to the Constitutional Council will be appointed next week, according to the Deputy Secretary-General of the Parliament Neil Iddawela.
The appointments will be made under the recommendations of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, two of the ex-officio members of the Constitutional Council.
The tenures of five council members, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana, MP Vijitha Herath, former Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne and two other civil representatives, ended recently.
Neil Iddawela stated that former members will not be reappointed when appointing new members to the Constitutional Council.
