Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the Bribery Commission to confirm whether its approval has been granted to the case filed by the former Director General of the Commission against former Minister MP Kumara Welgama.
The Bribery Commission was ordered to produce the written approval to file the case on October 29, if the case had been lodged in accordance with the commission’s approval.
The case was against the former Minister of Transport Kumara Welgama for the allegedly creating a Vice Chairman position at the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) arbitrarily and appointing one of his associates to the position with a salary payment of nearly Rs 3.3 million.
The defense attorney requested the court to release MP Welgama, claiming the case to be illegal as it had been filed without a written approval.
The court then issued an order stating that the decision on the request sought by the defense attorney will be considered on October 19.
