Over 2,500 arrested in special countrywide police operation

Sri Lanka Police said that more than 2,500 suspects were arrested in a massive police operation covering the entire country.
The Police Spokesman’s Office, in a press release, said that the operation was launched on the instructions of the IGP, and was carried out between 11.00 p.m. last night and 5.00 a.m. today (29).
Accordingly a total of 1,714 individuals with pending warrants were taken into custody during the special operation while another 787 suspects wanted in connection with various crimes were also arrested.
