Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala says there are no issues with regard to national security and that the President and Prime Minister can take responsibility for the country’s security.
She stated that back in the day only a single individual took responsibility and acted with regard to defence, but now the relevant agencies are handling the affairs.
“We as a government, the President and Prime Minister can properly take responsibility on the security of the country,” the minister said, speaking to reporters.
Athukorala said that unlike before, neither ministers nor the police chief have any need to interfere with investigations and that there is no one to ‘give orders’ like in the past.
The relevant officials are allowed to act independently and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been afforded the right to do what is required as they please.
