Several flyers reportedly bearing the name of the ‘Aava Group’, a criminal gang operating in the North, had been found left behind at several locations in the Vavuniya Town, according to security forces.
These flyers were reportedly distributed yesterday (01) at various places in Vavuniya such as Kurumankadu, Vairawapuliyankulam, Station Road and Kandy Road.
According to the security forces, the flyers contained the image of a covered visage of a person holding up a sword, the name of the criminal gang and a text.
The text in the flyers could be roughly translated as, “We will always stand up for the issues of the public. We are not anti-public and members of our group are active at several places in Vavuniya, prepared for any occasion,” Vavuniya security forces said.
Vavuniya Police said investigations will be carried out in search of the responsible persons for distributing the flyers.
