
Fort Magistrate has re-issued an open warrant on former Sri Lankan ambassador to United States of America, Jaliya Wickramasuriya.
The Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) informed Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today (02) that further investigations are being conducted on the case.
Wickramasuriya has been charged with allegedly accepting a commission of US$ 332,000 following a contract awarded to refurbish the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington DC while serving as the Ambassador to the US, under the previous government.
He was permitted to travel abroad by the Fort Magistrate’s Court on July 10 last year, however has failed to appear before the court since.
Meanwhile, the FCID stated that investigations are also being conducted to determine whether Wickramasuriya had misappropriate the money allocated for reparation activities of the Sri Lankan Embassy in the US as well.
Considering the facts presented, the Magistrate re-issued open warrants to arrest defendant Jaliya Wickramasuriya.
