Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Horana electoral organiser and Deputy Chairman of the Western Provincial Council (WPC) Yasapala Koralage has joined the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU).
Horana Pradeshiya Sabha member Nanda Abeywickrama, the chairman of the Horana cooperatives committee N.D. Gunasena and another executive board member have also joined the PHU with the provincial councilor.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, which was also attended by PHU leader MP Udaya Gammanpila and other party members, Mr Koralage stated that he is only the ‘whip cracker’ (Kasakaru) and that more will be joining the PHU in the future.
A former member of the Joint Opposition (JO), Koralage had pledged support to President Maithripala Sirisena’s policies and crossed over in December last year. He obtained SLFP membership from the President, and was appointed as SLFP organiser for Horana electorate.
However, he has now decided to switch over to the PHU, which is also part of the Joint Opposition led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
