Gunmen who shot youth in Beruwela to steal motorcycle arrested

Police have arrested the two suspects responsible for shooting at two youths on a motorcycle in the Pannaliya area in Beruwala last night and stealing their motorcycle.

 

Police said that 8 more suspects connected to various crimes were also arrested based on the information uncovered following the interrogation of the two shooting suspects.

 

The incident had occurred at around 8.20 p.m. last night (3) when two unidentified individuals who arrived in a car opened fire at two youths traveling on a motorcycle in the Pannaliya area in Beruwala.

 

One of the two youth, a 26-year-old from Walathara, was admitted to the Nagoda Hospital in Kalutara following the shooting and is in critical condition, according to the Police Spokesman’s Office.

 

Police immediately launched an investigation into the incident and based on information received that the suspects who carried out the shooting were hiding in the Munhena area in Maggona, searched a house in the area late last night.

 

Police arrested the two suspected shooters and two others individuals including a woman at the house while the T-56 assault rifle and the car used by them were also taken into custody.

 

Further investigations had revealed that the shooting was carried out with the intention of stealing the motorcycle belonging to the victim. Police succeeded in locating the stolen motorcycle.

 

Police also arrested another 6 individuals connected to various crimes, based on the information uncovered through their interrogation.
