The underworld gang member, Hasitha a.k.a ‘Banda’, who was critically wounded following a shootout with police near the State Steele Corporation Grounds in Athurugiriya erlier today, has reportedly been transferred from Oruwala Hospital to the Colombo National Hospital.
Hospital sources said that the individual had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and that doctors are currently tending to his injuries.
Meanwhile sources revealed that the injured suspect is a close associate of notorious underworld figure ‘Makandure Madush’ and that he was also connected to the infamous jewellery store robbery in Matara.
The 30-year-old, identified as Ranasingha Arachchilage Hasitha alias ‘Banda’, is a resident of Bandaragama.
The suspect’s pistol, which he had used to open fire at the police officers, is in the custody of the Police Organised Crimes Prevention Division.
