Suspect arrested for abduction escapes custody

A suspect, who had been arrested for an alleged abduction of an under-aged girl, has escaped the custody of the prison’s officers yesterday (08), stated Morawaka Police.
Reportedly, the suspect had escaped on the way back to the prison bus when no person had offered to bail him out at the Morawaka Magistrate’s Court.
Several teams of police officers have already launched search operations to apprehend the escaped suspect.
The suspect in question is a 23-year-old youth named Samarawickrama Arachchige Sachithra Hemal, residing in Hambantota area.
He was arrested on September 18 by a group of police officers on duty near the school of said girl, when he was about to abduct her from a three-wheeler in Milla Ella area.
