Steps to be taken to prevent elephant-train collisions

Wildlife Conservation Department and Railway Department have planned to implement special measures to avoid elephant-train collisions in the future.
Accordingly, the elephant passes falling on rail tracks will be marked again.
A team from Wildlife Department and the Railway Department will be deployed to the relevant areas today (10).
Meanwhile, another wild elephant collided with Batticaloa-Colombo ‘Meenagaya’ express train this morning.
The elephant, severely sustaining injuries, is currently being treated by Wildlife officials.
However, wildlife officials say that the condition of the wild elephant is critical.
Three more wild elephants were killed in collision with the ‘Meenagaya’ train, last Saturday (06).
