Chinese national held over attempt to smuggle in cigarettes

A Chinese passenger has been apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake while attempting to smuggle foreign cigarettes worth Rs 600,000 into the country.
The 35-year-old male had arrived in the country at 6.00 a.m. this morning (13) and was apprehended by Sri Lanka Customs at the Green Channel of the arrival lounge.
Customs officer found 60 cartons containing 12,000 sticks of foreign cigarettes valued at Rs 600,000 packed in two traveling bags.
Sri Lanka Customs is conducting further inquiries.
