Maskeliya Police today (16) arrested a woman on suspicion over the murder of her mentally ill son.
The aunt and the younger brother of the victim, as well as two others, have also been arrested in connection with the murder.
The deceased was identified as a 33-year-old, named Nallaiya Ramkumar, who had been residing in Loku Solankanda part of the Stockholm Estate in Maskeliya police division.
The victims had reportedly been suffering from a mental illness since childhood.
He was found dead on October 13 and the family members had stated to the police that the death is not suspicious.
However, the police, who deemed the death of the youth suspicious, stated that results of the postmortem examination, conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer of Dickoya Base Hospital, also ruled the death as a murder.
The arrestees are to be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court.
