The Mannar Magistrate’s Court has granted approval to send the human skeletal remains recovered from the mass grave in Mannar to a lab in the United States for radiocarbon dating.
Judicial Medical Officer Dr. S. Rajapaksa said that steps are being taken to send some of the human skeletons unearthed at the site to a lab in Florida.
He stated that the skeletal remains are currently in his custody and stored in a special room at the Mannar court complex.
So far complete skeletal remains of 185 people have been found at the mass grave in Mannar following excavations carried out for around 90 days.
In March, construction workers had found remains when the ground was dug to build a new construction at the old cooperative store site in Mannar. Excavations were on since March.
