Jaffna security forces say that several flyers containing the symbol of the LTTE organisation have been distributed in the Jaffna town.
The flyers were reportedly distributed by the name of the Tamil People’s Council, which is headed by the Northern Provincial Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, regarding a meeting that is scheduled to be held on October 24.
The security forces suspect that the content of the flyers contains the translations of ‘the great awakening’ and ‘join in to strengthen the hands of the leaders of Tamil People’s Front’ and ‘month of leaders’.
‘The month of the leaders’ is suspected to imply the Maaveer Day, which was commemorated by the LTTE in November.
The security forces will be carrying out investigations to uncover if the said flyers were distributed by the Tamil People’s Front or some other subversive group of individuals.
Meanwhile, the official term of the Northern Provincial Council will come to an end with effect from midnight tomorrow (24).
