Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga stated that Bandaranaike’s SLFP and D. S. Senanayake’s UNP don’t exist anymore.

He made these comments during the “Game Pansala-Gamata Saviyak” welfare program held at Meeghawaththa Sri Sudarmaramaya, today (24).

Responding to media queries Minister stated that the country will deteriorate due to party politics.

“Government is run by two major political parties. In such instance, minor problems between the parties are common. However, the President and the Prime Minister have the responsibility to solve those issues. People gave a mandate to two parties, not just one. If someone violates that responsibility, it will cause a major disaster for the country’s wellbeing. The President and the Prime Minister should fulfill their responsibilities. If they work together for another year and a half, they will be able to develop the country. However, most of the politicians are trying to separate them”, says Minister Ranatunga.

“Bandaranaike’s SLFP and D. S. Senanayake’s UNP don’t exist anymore. There are differences between the parties from time to time. But the original vision of the party should be carried out by its members. Parties should become modernized by following visions of veteran politicians. Country is deteriorated by party politics. Powerless people who enter politics by national list are attempting to destroy parties. Everyone is trying to acquire power. Country can only be developed when there are no party politics”, he added.
