Eight of the detainees who staged a protest recently at the Angunukolapelessa Prison demanding the removal of Special Task Force (STF) personnel from supervising prison security have been transferred to different prisons.
The transfer had been made as the relevant eight detainees had pleaded guilty and requested to be transferred following the protest. Accordingly, they were transferred out today, according to Ada Derana reporter.
Among the transferred detainees are ‘Julampitiya Amare’, Abeynayake, ‘Tangalle Mahesh’, who have been detained over charges related to murder and heroin.
They have been transferred to Kalutara, Kuruvita, Galle, Matara and Monaragala prisons.
The detainees have revealed that they demanded that the Superintendent of Prison to be removed only as he had not give in to the demands of removing the deployed STF personnel. Accordingly, the serving Superintendent of Prison has been reinstated to post.
