UNP requests Speaker to defend Ranil’s rights as PM

The UNP have requested the Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya to take necessary measures to defend the rights of Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Reportedly, the chairman and the general secretary of the party have made the relevant request to the Speaker in writing.
According to the UNP, Ranil Wickremesinghe still holds the position of Prime Minister along with the confidence of the majority of the parliamentarians.
The UNP has requested the Speaker to defend the rights of Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister including ensuring his security, in accordance with the Article 42(2) of the Constitution.
Meanwhile, Minister Mangala Samaraweera stated that the security of former Prime Minister had been removed with effect from yesterday (27).
