The Colombo High Court has ordered to temporarily lift the overseas travel ban issued against MP Prasanna Ranatunga, who is charged with threatening a businessman and demanding Rs 64 million.
The case was taken up before the Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne today (01).
The defense attorney informed that his client is slated to attend a conference from 5th to 11th of November and sought an order lifting the overseas travel ban currently imposed on the defendant.
Colombo HC Judge then ordered to lift the travel ban and to take up the case again on January 17.
Attorney General had filed the case against three persons including MP Ranatunga and his wife for allegedly threatening a businessman named Gehard Mendis and demanding Rs 64 million for the filling of the marshy lands in the Meethotamulla area and the clearing of its unauthorized occupants.
As the third defendant of the case, Naresh Farik is currently overseas and absconding the court, the High Court has decided to proceed with the hearing of the case without his presence.
