
Three Sri Lankan fishermen from Kalpitiya have been apprehended by the Sri Lanka Navy over an attempt to smuggle out 7 kg of gold to India.
Navy officials have found 60 gold biscuits each weighing 100 g and 1 god bar weighing 1 kg concealed inside the bow of the suspects’ fishing boat.
The three suspects, their fishing boat and the contraband were taken to custody of the Navy attached to the Vijaya Regiment in Kalpitiya, yesterday (03).
The gold and the suspects have been handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs today and further investigations are carried out by Customs officials.
