One person has died, while another sustained critical injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon at around 10 pm last night (04), according to Chilaw Police.
The deceased has been identified as a 22-year-old youth named Samith Randil, residing in Mugunuwatawana area in Chilaw.
Reportedly, Jeewan Aruna Shantha, the other person who sustained critical injuries, is a resident of the same area.
He was admitted to Chilaw General Hospital following the incident, however, subsequently transferred to Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.
The attacker has reportedly assaulted the father of the deceased while consuming alcohol with him and a dispute has broken out when the deceased youth arrived at the scene to confront him regarding the incident.
He had then been attacked with a sharp weapon in the heat of the moment.
The suspect is yet to be apprehended and Chilaw Police is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
