Person arrested with Rs 8.9 mn worth jewellery at BIA

A passenger arriving in the country has been apprehended by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for attempting to smuggle in gold jewellery.

 

Officials have found 1.49 kg of gold jewellery on the suspect while the seized jewelry is estimated to be worth over Rs 8.9 million.

 

The 49 year old suspect from Kandy had from Singapore at 11 am this morning (06) and was passing trough the Green Channel of the arrivals lounge at BIA when he was detained.

 

Further investigations are conducted by the customs officials attached to the BIA.
