MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena stated that the President and the Prime Minister have instructed the Chairman of Elections Commission to expedite the process of holding the provincial council elections.
MP Abeywardena mentioned this at a press conference held in Colombo today (07).
According to the MP, the President and the PM have asked the Elections Chief Mahinda Deshapriya to hold the PC election under the preferential voting system if the new method is not possible.
On 14th November, President will present the policy statement to the parliament and then the parliament will be postponed by a day, he added.
Therefore, on that day, a majority vote will not be taken nor will a no-confidence motion against the PM will be proposed, he further stated.
