Security provided for the former Chief Minister of the Northern Province C.V. Wigneswaran has been removed.

According to Wigneswaran the security detail provided to him has been removed since the 27th of November.

Reportedly, the President and the Inspector General of Police have also been informed in writing regarding this.

However, Wigneswaran says that he should be provided with police protection as a former Chief Minister.

Wigneswaran further said that he urges the government to provide him with the relevant security detail promptly.

He said that the IGP had allowed the Personal Police Security to continue though they withdrew the Security to CM’s residence.

However, this morning the HQI Jaffna had instructed the Police officers to report immediately at the Jaffna Police Station.

Wigneswaran says he is in Colombo with his Security officers and that two officers have reported at the Jaffna Police Station.

Meanwhile in a letter addressed to the President, C.V. Wigneswaran requests the President to approve Personal Police Security to him in view of the “threat” that was reported to the IGP.

The former Chief Minister says that he had informed the IGP and the Senior DIG of the threat on his life, which came to light some time ago, and that he also personally informed the President when he had visited Jaffna.

“I believe the suspect was DIG Nalaka Silva presently in custody,” he says in the letter.
