Sri Lankan actress Nilmini Sigera has been named the ‘Brilliant Performer’ at the Osaka Asian Film Festival (OAFF) 2019.

The Osaka Asian Film Festival, an annual film festival held in Osaka City, Japan, was held this year from the 25th of February to the 17th of March.

The Film Festival celebrates and appreciates Asian cinema industry and has been conducted annually since 2005.

Actress Nilmini Sigera received the award ‘Brilliant Performer’ for her performance in the film ‘Asandhimitta’, by Director Asoka Handagama.

The film portraying the ‘fictional aspect of reality’ is about a filmmaker who receives a request from one of his former acquaintances – Asandhimitta – to turn her story into a film. The director is initially skeptical as his memory of Asandhimitta is of a large woman who was mocked by others. She then confesses that she was recently involved in the murder of three women and she will soon be taken into custody and probably hanged. She is willing to confess all and only to him so long as he makes her story into a film. Intrigued, the filmmaker decides to make sense of what led up to her situation little realizing he might get lost in the drama.
