
One person was critically injured and hospitalized while train services on the Northern railway line were temporarily disrupted after a bus had collided with the Kankesanthurai-bound ‘Uttara Devi’ train at the Karambakam Junction in Kodikamam this morning (11).
Police said that the private bus had attempted to pass through the railway crossing at the Karambakam Junction while ignoring the signals of an oncoming train when the collision occurred.
However, only the driver of the bus had been inside at the time of the accident while he has been admitted to the Jaffna General Hospital with critical injuries.
Ada Derana reporter said that the small private bus has been completely destroyed as it was dragged by the train along the rail track following the crash, which had also somewhat damaged the train.
Train services on the northern railway line has been limited to Palai railway station owing to this while the damaged ‘Uttara Devi’ train is being towed to Palai station, after which train services on the line are expected to return to normal.
