The Ministry of Education announced that all government schools in the country will be closed on November 15 (Friday) in view of the Presidential Election, which is scheduled to be held on November 16.

Issuing a statement, the Ministry stated that as per the request made by the Election Commission to utilize school buildings and premises as polling centers and counting centers for the election, a decision was taken to declare November 15, 2019 as a holiday for all government schools in the island.

A majority of the schools in the country are expected to be used as polling centers and counting centers for the presidential election.

The following schools are to be used as counting centers:

Colombo District: 
D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo 
Royal College, Colombo 

Gampaha District: 
Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Paththalagedara – Veyangoda

Kalutara District:
Musaeus College, Kalutara North

Kandy District:
Kandy Model School, Polgolla

Matale District:
Christ Church College, Matale

Nuwara Eliya District:
Gamini National School, Nuwara Eliya

Galle District:
St. Aloysius’ College, Galle

Matara District:
Sujatha College, Matara

Hambantota District:
Tzu Chi National School, Hambantota

Jaffna District:
Central College, Jaffna

Batticaloa District:
Hindu College, Batticaloa

Kurunegala District:
Sir John Kothalawala College, Kurunegala
Maliyadeva Boys’ College, Kurunegala

Puttalam District:
St. Andrew’s Central College, Puttalam
Fathima Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Puttalam

Anuradhapura District:
Anuradhapura Central College, Anuradhapura

Badulla District:
