Former captain Mahela Jayawardene became the first Sri Lankan batsman to top 11,000 runs in Test cricket during Sri Lanka’s second innings of the third Test against Pakistan in Sharjah.
Playing in his 141st Test match Jayawardene required 13 runs to enter the exclusive club and he did it in style by launching onto a Saeed Ajmal delivery and hitting it over long leg for six.
He is the eighth batsman in Test history to achieve the feat.
Indians Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, Australians Ricky Ponting and Allan Border, West Indians Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul and South African Jacques Kallis are the others before Jayawardene to score over 11,000 Test runs.
