
The body of a police officer has been discovered with injury marks at Mullamunai in Vavunathivu, stated the Police.
Officers of the Vavunathivu Police Station had inspected the relevant area on an anonymous tip-off received by them this morning (06).
Upon search, the officers had come across deceased male with marks of injuries on his body.
The deceased has been identified as a 55-year-old police sergeant serving attached to the Valachchenai Police, stated Police Media Spokesperson.
It has been revealed that the sergeant had owned a piece of land nearby to the area the body was found.
The sergeant had talked on the phone with his wife at around 11 pm last night (05) before leaving to check on his property where he was murdered, according to Ada Derana reporter.
Reportedly, the deceased is a father of three who was due to retire from police service next month.
The body was kept at the place of death under police protection until the Batticaloa Magistrate conducted the Magistrate’s inquest.
The body was transferred to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital following the Magistrate’s Inquest.
Police have provided heavy security to the area over the unrest caused by the incident.
Further investigations are carried out by the Vavunathivu Police.
