COPE to summon 3 major govt institutions including Sri Lanka Cricket

The Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) MP Sunil Handunneththi stated that the Committee has decided to summon the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, the National Lotteries Board and Sri Lanka Cricket for its meetings during the next parliamentary sessions the third week of this month.

 

The next sessions of the Parliament are scheduled for the 18th 19th 20th of February.

 

The chairman mentioned the above addressing a press conference held at the parliament complex today (07).

 

Furthermore, the committee chair stated that the committee intends to take into discussion the Forensic Audit report issued by the Central Bank regarding the Treasury Bond Issuance as well as the verdict given in a foreign country in connection with the purchase of SriLankan Airline’s Airbus. Two reports prepared by the COPE Committee particular to the Airbus purchase and the closure of the Airbus purchase agreements have been presented to Parliament earlier.

 

The chairman further stated that it is his preview that the findings of the COPE Committee regarding the CBSL Treasury Bond Issuance are substantiated by the report of the Presidential Commission and the Forensic Audit report.

 

Whilst thanking the media for their support regarding the activities of the COPE committee, MP Handunnetti stated that he expects that the support extended would continue in the future correspondingly.

 

Given the tradition which has been adopted in the recent past with the concurrence of COPE members, the chair emphasized that he intends to protect and continue the tradition of the Minister in charge of an institution not participating in the Committee Session when and if the respective institution under his responsibility is being summoned before COPE.

 

State Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and MPs Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, D.V. Chanaka, Ranjan Ramanayake, Ajith P. Perera, Ashok Abeysinghe, Harsha De Silva, Sriyani Wijewickrama were present at the COPE meeting.
