A committee has been appointed to look into the sudden breakdown of electricity supply that was experienced on Monday (Feb 03) without prior approval.
The Ministry of Power and Energy says that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) on the 3rd of February interrupted the power supply for several areas in the country for nearly 2 hours without the seeking the approval of the ministry beforehand.
The public, as well as the government, was inconvenienced by this situation, the ministry said issuing a media release. It emphasized that the ministry had not taken any prior decision with regard to this sudden power cut.
Minister of Power & Energy Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Secretary to the Ministry to appoint a committee to probe the matter without delay.
Secretary to the State Ministry of Power & Energy Hemantha Samarakoon will chair the committee that consists of Prof. Rahula Attalage, Additional Director-General E.A. Rathnaseela and Director (Development) Sulakshana Jayawardena.
The committee is due to submit its report before the 11th of February.
