Ravi Karunanayake cannot escape by going into hiding, says former United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.
Speaking on the inability to arrest former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake despite arrest warrants, Fonseka said that there is no reason to hide.
He says that one can’t do both politicking and hiding at the same time. Either they should come out and do politics or just quit politics and continue hiding, the former Army Commander added.
Stating that this could be a ‘drama’, Fonseka said that certain UNP strongmen conduct deals with the Rajapaksas.
If a fraud has occurred in the Treasury, the Head of State and the Finance Minister of the relevant government should be held responsible, he further said.
“Those are the ones who are responsible for the people. No point jailing a random person.”
Fonseka further said that the former Prime Minister too should be held responsible as the banks were under him.
Speaking on the election symbol of ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’, the former MP said that they have currently agreed on the ‘Telephone’ if they do not get the ‘Swan’ symbol.
However, they are not willing to give out titles to Ravi Karunanayake to obtain the ‘Swan’ symbol, he said. They would only accept it if it was given unconditionally, he added.
