Political parties have been requested to limit the number of persons coming to handover nominations for the General Election 2020, says the Police Media Division.
Accordingly, the police have urged political parties to send in two representatives from each party to submit election nominations.
This precautionary measure is being taken as per a suggestion to limit public congregation.
Accordingly, political party representatives are submitting nominations on March 17, 18 and 19 are advised to follow these instructions.
The Election Commission has noted that only one representative of a political party or an independent group and a second person, who is on the nomination list, can enter nomination hall. One assistant is also allowed inside the hall. However, the police stated that it is appreciated if the nominee and one other person come in to hand over the nominations instead of the maximum number of persons allowed.
In the meantime, the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry has called for limiting political meetings and public congregation considering the risks posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak within Sri Lanka.
