Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed Chris Adams, a former English first-class cricketer and former director of English county team Surrey, as a consultant for the national team’s upcoming tour of England.

The SLC Executive Committee, at its meeting held today (April 28), “approved the recommendation made by SLC’s Chairman Cricket Committee, Chairman Selection Committee and Head of Coaching to appoint former Sussex County Captain and former Surrey County Coach Chris Adams as a Consultant for the upcoming tour of England.”

Adams spent 11 years as captain of Sussex, leading the club to three County Championship trophies, before leaving at the end of the 2008 campaign for the coaching post at Surrey.

The 43-year-old, who briefly represented his nation at Test and One Day International level, and his assistant Ian Salisbury, were sacked in June 2013 after Surrey had failed to register a win in their first eight Championship matches and had endured a poor start to their YB40 campaign.

Adams won one trophy during his time at Surrey and has reportedly been out of the game since parting company with The Oval club in June.

Meanwhile the SLC’s ex-co has also approved the appointment of Marvan Atapattu as the Head Coach of the National Cricket team and Ruwan Kalpage as the Interim Assistant Coach.

“These appointments are in effect immediately till the conclusion of South Africa’s tour to Sri Lanka this year,” SLC said in a statement.

The team leaves end of this week and the preparations received a jolt when the English coach Paul Farbrace abruptly left the Sri Lankan head coach’s job to become England’s deputy coach under Peter Moores.
