Opening batsman Hashim Amla scored a brilliant century as South Africa posted 304 for the loss of 5 wickets against Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Ajantha Mendis was the pick of the bowlers for the home side as he finished with figures of 91/3.
After opting to bat first, AB de Villiers will be happy to see 304/5 on the board.
The visitors started off very well with Amla and de Kock sharing their 5th 50+ stand in ODIs.
Though they lost the latter and Kallis in quick succession, the skipper and Amla batted sensibly and added 151 runs for the third wicket.
Amla completed his 13th ODI hundred before being dismissed.
In the end, a quick-fire 55-run stand between Miller and McLaren propelled the Proteas past 300.
