
Niluka Ekanayake, who had handed in nominations to contest the upcoming General Election from the Ratnapura Districts under the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’, has decided to withdraw her candidacy.
She has sent a letter to the Chairman of the Election Commission regarding her withdrawal while copies of the letter have also been sent to the leader of the SJB Sajith Premadasa and secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara.
Niluka Ekanayake is a former Governor of Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.
She is the third ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’ candidate to withdraw from the election race.
Earlier this week, SJB’s Matara District Group Leader and former minister Mangala Samaraweera announced that he decided not to contest the forthcoming general election.
Meanwhile on Wednesday a Galle District candidate of the SJB, Major (Rtd) Denat Paniyandoowage also withdrew from the election and pledges his support to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
