The Boossa Prison has been declared a maximum-security prison, stated Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya.

He mentioned this at a press conference held at the Ministry of Defense, today (16).

Accordingly, high-risk inmates will be relocated to the Boossa Prison, the Commissioner-General added.

Speaking at the press conference Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that measures have been taken to regularize the process of the visitation process of inmates.

He said that the procedure to visit prison inmates will be regularized and included as a regulation of the Prisons Act.

Rights of both the prisoner and the visitors will be safeguarded while ensuring that no illegal activity takes place during the visit, DIG Ajith Rohana added.

Meanwhile, 120 inmates of the Welikada will be offered employment opportunities in the future, said Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya.

This will be done in the coordination of a construction company and the employed inmates will receive a salary to be used for the wellbeing of their families, said Upuldeniya.

The 120 inmates have been selected from a group 250 prisoners, and they had been sentenced for up to 7 years, the Commissioner Genera added.
