A member of an underworld gang, who was involved in orchestrating criminal activities with a remanded gangster named Indunil Kumara alias ‘Indra’, has been taken into custody.
The arrest was made by the officers of Police Special Task Force (STF) in the area of Ranala in Hanwella.
The arrestee has since been identified as Thanipulli Arachchige Don Lakitha Ravishan Jayatilake alias ‘Puita’.
According to reports, the suspect had carried out extortions and several other illegal activities in conjunction with ‘Indra’ using various telephone numbers.
One sword, one mobile phone, 05 SIM cards and one empty T-56 shell case have been seized in possession of the suspect.
He has been handed over to the Hanwella Police for further investigations, the STF said.
In another development, another criminal gang member and drug racketeer has been arrested in the area of Ragama.
The suspect, Viraj Anuradha Silva alias ‘Ranketiya’, has been identified as an associate of antoher gangster called ‘Ratmalane Rohana’.
During the STF raid, 08g of heroin, cash worth Rs. 41,000 and a car were seized from the suspect.
