A total of 25,912 suspects have been arrested by the police over the last 2 weeks for the possession of narcotic drugs and other crimes and offenses.
Sri Lanka Police had launched special raids island-wide from June 06 until midnight yesterday (20) to arrest suspects and individuals who had been issued arrest warrants.
According to the Police Media Division, 6,820 suspects have been arrested over the possession of narcotic drugs including heroin, cannabis, and Ice (Methamphetamine).
Reportedly, 52 have been arrested for the possession of illegal firearms and weapons while 06 others were arrested with explosives.
Additionally, 5,574 suspects have been arrested with illicit liquor.
Further, 5,110 individuals issued warrants have also been arrested while another 8,750 have been arrested over other offenses and crimes.
