A suspect who robbed cash and jewelry worth over Rs 18 million by breaking into a bank in Warakapola has been arrested by the officers of the Kegalle Crimes Division.
The arrest, based on a complaint received by the Warakapola Police, has been made at the Enderamulla area in Wattala Police Division early last morning (21).
On June 02, an individual who broke into a bank in Warakapola had robbed over Rs 18.6 million in cash and gold jewelry worth Rs 28,000.
Upon interrogation, it has been revealed that the suspect, on November 18, 2019, had also committed a crime by breaking into a development bank in Rambukkana as well.
Reportedly, 13 warrants have been issued on the suspect by several police stations across the island.
The suspect, along with the money and property stolen by him, has been handed over to the Warakapola Police Station.
Over Rs 1.3 million in cash from banks, a mobile phone, 02 National Identity Cards, a hard disk used in CCTV cameras, a Hilti machine, a drilling machine, and a foreign manufactured live hand grenade have been found among the stolen goods.
The suspect is a 32-year-old male residing in Wattala. He will be produced before the Warakapola Magistrate’s Court today (22).
Warakapola Police are carrying out further investigation into the matter.
