A total of 26,000 postal goods with indecipherable addresses received from the Malaysian Postal Administration Institute have been directed to the destined locations, says the Department of Posts.

Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyaratne said appeals were made to the government of Malaysia seeking assistance to restore the indecipherable addresses of 19,000 other postal goods. These parcels will also be distributed in due time, he added.

The Postal Department recently issued a statement in response to the constant inquiries received from various parties due to non-receipt of their goods ordered via the internet across the post.

“A cause for this delay is the non-receipt of postal goods receivable from most of the countries due to lack of formal operation of international flight schedules from the last week of the month of March up to date,” the statement read.

The Malaysian Postal Administration authorities had directed a container with postal goods, ordered via various websites by Sri Lankan consumers, through e-commerce to the Sri Lanka Department of Posts during the second week of June 2020.

There are approximately 45,000 small parcels directed through general post in this container, the Postal Department said. These were received by the Malaysian Postal Administration prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The parcels had been directed to Sri Lanka Postal Administration across the sea transportation end of May 2020 due to the unavailability of air transportation.

However, when the parcels were received after a delay of more than three (03) months, the addresses on the parcels had become indecipherable due to the poor technology utilized for printing the addresses on those parcels with goods, the Postal Department had explained.
