The first day of the first Test of the three-Test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at Galle was washed out due to rain. Play will start half an hour early tomorrow with the toss to take place at 0915 IST.
Both teams did not even leave their hotels when they knew that it was raining and it turned out to be the right thing to do with the day’s play washed out. The four day game now has a follow-on score of 150 and not the regular 200. Sri Lanka will hope to start afresh with Kumar Sangakkara looking to finish his Test career on a high.
Pakistan on the other hand are without their ace-spinner in Saeed Ajmal and will hope the youngsters step up and platform. Misbah-ul-Haq will again be expected to hold the innings together for Pakistan with the bat. Read: Saeed Ajmal ignored: Is this the beginning of the end for Pakistan’s ace spinner?
Rain is predicted for each and every day of this Test and one wonders how apt was it to have a long tour scheduled in the monsoon season. Sri Lanka will play three Tests, five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and a couple of Twenty20 Internationals.
