Excise officer arrested while illegally transporting ethanol

Two individuals who were illegally transporting ethanol of a private distilling company have been arrested in the area of Pamunugama in Uswetakeiyawa this morning (29).
One of them is identified as a sergeant attached to the Department of Excise, the Police said.
Further, 50 bottles of liquor and 05 bottles of ethanol were seized in possession of the arrestees.
The special police team that carried out the raid has handed over the suspects to the Pamunugama Police for further investigations.
The Spokesperson of the Excise Department, Excise Commissioner Mr. Kapila Kumarasinghe said disciplinary action will be taken against the officer in question, if he is proved guilty of the charges laid against him.
