
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (16) ordered to lift the overseas travel ban imposed on the Captain of the crude oil tanker ‘MT New Diamond’ which caught on fire while on Sri Lankan waters.
The case against Captain Stereo Sterio Ilias was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Mohamed Mihar today (16) following a motion put forward by the attorney representing Greek national.
During the proceedings of the case, the Captain’s counsel told the court that his client has pleaded guilty to the charges laid against him before the Colombo High Court.
He added that his client has already paid the fine to the tune of Rs 12 million, imposed by the Colombo High Court on Wednesday (14).
Accordingly, the counsel sought the chief magistrate to lift the overseas travel ban against Sterio Ilias.
As the Criminal Investigation DEpartment did not raise objections to the counsel’s request, the chief magistrate ordered to lift the relevant travel ban.
