The malfunctioning PCR machine at the Mulleriyawa Hospital can be restored by Monday (October 02), stated the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka.

The broken PCR machine caused considerable delays in the PCR testing process of Sri Lanka and technicians from the Republic of China arrived in the country.

Posting a message on Twitter, the Chinese Embassy says that the component for Automated Molecular Extraction of the machine has partly deviated while the main machine is working as normal.

It has been identified that the laboratory environment –the operation desk being unstable –might be the cause for the malfunction.

After running a few rounds of verification to be 100 percent sure, the machine will be operable by Monday.

The Embassy points out the relevant laboratory built in June on an urgent basis with technical support from China has carried out nearly 26,000 PCR tests.

BGI Genomics, the company which provided the PCR machine, is a leading biotech company that supplies products to 66 countries and has built ‘Fire Eye’ PCR test labs in Wuhan and Qingdao Provinces in China, Hongkong, Australia, Serbia, and many more, stated the Embassy.
