Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 figures soared yet again on Monday (02) as 275 more individuals linked to the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster were tested positive for the virus.

The Department of Government Information said 43 of them were identified from quarantine facilities. The remaining 232 are close contacts of earlier patients.

The Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster has grown to become the largest-ever in Sri Lanka with a total of 7,857 infections since the beginning of October.

With this development, the total number of positive coronavirus cases Sri Lanka has registered to date escalated to 11,335, according to Epidemiology Unit’s data.

As per statistics, 5,249 patients in the country have made complete recoveries from the virus so far while 6,065 active cases continue to be under medical care at selected hospitals in the country.

In the meantime, the death toll was revised to 21 on Monday (02), after it was determined that the death of the 27-year-old, who committed suicide and posthumously declared to be infected with the virus, is not Covid-19-related.
